Thesis Portfolio Thesis Focus: Ready Player One

Hello Pynk Community

With the launch of Thesis Portfolio earlier this month, we saw their flagship investment product brought to market. The ‘Thesis Portfolio’ gives investors exposure to a number of considered investment themes (or ‘Theses’) individually validated by Pynk’s Crowd Wisdom system and Thesis Portfolio’s in-house Investment Committee - identifying segments, assumptions, catalysts, and market developments so as to identify and monitor assets and investment theses.

Theses cover a broad range of fascinating and dynamic market sectors, including precious metals , AI, solutions to global warming, blockchain technology and much, much more. This week we are turning our Focus to ‘Ready Player One’, a thesis carefully composed to capture the associated financial benefits of investing in the move towards a more digital world.

The Gaming industry has seen tremendous growth during the pandemic, and the Thesis Portfolio Investment Committee believe it is set to continue. Analysts are consistently adjusting their expectations for this sector, as it continues to grow, benefiting from increased accessibility and improved supply chains globally. The demand success throughout 2019 & 2020 is a demonstration of the sustained interest by younger generations, with no perceived signs of slowing down on the horizon.

"The growth of streaming services such as Twitch has opened this world up to the everyday user, and that has translated into increased spend per person as individuals search to become the next ‘Ninja’ or ‘Shroud’. This new age superstar dream chasing is expected to grow with its ever expanding user base.

Not only is gaming benefiting from this growth, but hardware and software manufacturers and suppliers are too. In the age of smart technology, we’ve seen a continuous transition towards total reliance upon wearable devices, along with smart home products. The wild success of smart products is only expected to continue, with the various stakeholders set to benefit for decades to come." says Philip Fletcher, Director, Head of Trading, Thesis Portfolio.

The play here is simple, the Thesis Portfolio Investment Committee have found individual beneficiaries who are positioned effectively, and have established themselves as major players within a defined niche within this vast industry. This allows the committee to monitor and respond to focused news flow and expectations surrounding those key areas.

Hi Al! You are touching one of my greatest point of interest!

I was talking with a friend of mine just last weekend about AR and most of all VR applied not only in the gameing field but also in the educational field.

How much it can take to have the possibility to visit a museum from home just like in the movie “Ready Player One”? Or a city mapped from Google? Or the inner sanctum of our body and each part of it where you can both play an adventure inside your body, going trough your blood vessels and in the meanwhile learning how your body works, what’s healthy and what’s not and so on… :exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head:

I don’t know what kind of companies are into this but I am for sure supersuperinterested!!

Glad you like the ‘Ready Player One’ Thesis @Tradelta

Although we regularly review each thesis, the list of what is currently within that thesis can be seen below:

If anyone has any suggestions for possible new additions or thoughts on the current holdings, we are always happy to hear your thoughts. :slightly_smiling_face:

Any schedule on when this will go live?

How would would you handle things like Facebook owning Oculus Rift? Invest in Facebook?

Hi @edjallen

Sorry if it wasn’t clear. ‘Ready Player One’ is already one of the Theses within the Thesis Portfolio. Meaning Investors in Thesis Portfolio are already invested into this

Hi @edjallen, :mage:

In the portfolio allocation process, each asset needs to pass several screenings before being added to the portfolio. Criteria include fundamentals, technical analysis, thematic fit, crowd opinion, among others. In your example, revenues obtained from Oculus Rift add up to only 3% of Facebook’s revenues, according to a recent Barrons article. In a scenario like that, fundamental changes in Oculus are expected to have little impact on Facebook and therefore wouldn’t be a satisfactory exposure to the VR industry.

On the other hand, Facebook is a company inching the world towards digitalisation, and would therefore fit into the broader Ready Player One thesis. That is one criteria out of many that the Investment Committee uses to decide whether to invest or not in any given asset.

Ready Player One is one of the 15 live theses that you can check out and gain exposure to with Thesis Portfolio. If you want to learn more, you can see the asset breakdown of each thesis on the Thesis Portfolio side of the Beta App.

Don’t hesitate to ask if you have additional questions! :man_cartwheeling:

When investing, your capital is at risk.

Thanks for clearing that up.
